More Spanish! (Obviously.) I can understand so much more than when I first arrived. The speaking is coming slowly, but surely, but it is fun to see progress. I will have to find ways to keep practicing when I go home, so that I don’t lose it.
Jokes and expressions are the most
difficult part of a language to learn.
I love food. If I didn’t already
know this, I am sure of it now. My host mom is an amazing cook and I love
everything she puts in front of me. She also is always insisting on giving me
more. When I tell her I am full, she offers me something else. Today at lunch,
I told her that I couldn’t finish all the fish, so she offered me ham.
Having a clothes dryer is a
luxury. It will be amazing when laundry no longer takes three days!
As nice as an afternoon siesta may
sound, I will never understand how the whole city can shut down for hours in
the middle of the day.
Spaniards prefer to go to the
grocery store everyday for a few things as opposed to stocking up for the whole
week. And they don’t buy in bulk. Except milk…
I know very little about other
parts of the world, and even my own country. People I have met here from other
countries know more about some things in the states than I do. And everyone
seems to know multiple languages. The foreign students I’ve met know their
native language and English, AT LEAST, and are now learning Spanish. Talking to
them is fascinating. If I could just master this second language, I would be
thrilled!
"Tableta de chocolate" means "abs of steel"
"Sois la leche" means "you all are awesome!"
God is everywhere. His promises
are true everywhere. And He doesn’t give up on us ever. He is enough for me and
is everyday molding me into the person he desires me to be.
I am blessed with amazing family
and friends. It is truly a blessing to be able to say that it is so difficult
to be away from them!
I appreciate many more things
about home than I ever realized. This summer, I will not take a single thing
for granted!
